HOME COOLING TIPS

*Clean or change air conditioner filters monthly. Make sure any outside air conditioner compressor is free of dirt and debris. The flow of air is the key to cooling, so don't make your system work harder than needed.
*Cook meals, run the dishwasher and dry clothes during the cooler times in the day.
*Use fans to keep air moving. A ceiling fan uses only about as much electricity as a light bulb-far less than an air conditioner.
*Close drapes and shades during the day to keep heat out of your house.

Keeping animals cool during hot weather

Stoneleigh reminds residents to keep their animals out of the heat during the dog days of summer. If your pet must be left outside during the day, please provide plenty of clean water and constant access to shade.

Animals should never be left in a car, particularly when outdoor temperatures exceed 75 degrees. Since car windows collect light and trap heat, temperatures can rise dramatically, even on mild days. A cracked window provides little relief for animals.

Animal Welfare can charge owners with animal cruelty if their pet is in distress or dies from heat-related neglect, even if it's an accident.

Stay cool!
